A charmy example of Wiener bronze Manifacture ( Wiener Bronze ) a Terrier dog, Austria, 1890.
Vienna, Austria circa 1890.
500 Euro
A classic and charming example of Vienna Bronze (Wiener Bronzen) craftsmanship. The little dog—which appears to resemble a terrier or a flat-faced bulldog/pug—is depicted in a classic begging pose (standing on its hind legs), but with an ironic and irresistibly human touch: it wears a peaked sports cap, similar to a flat cap or a newsboy/hunting cap of the era. This type of subject matter—animals engaging in human activities or dressed in period attire—was one of the most successful and highly collectible genres of Viennese production, celebrated for combining superb technical skill with a whimsical sense of humor.Hand-finished bronze casting with meticulous attention to detail. Natural dark patina. Austria circa 1890.
