A Irish terrier bronze, signed C. Charles, France 1920.
France circa 1920
1000 EURO
This bronze sculpture, boasting a beautiful dark brown patina, meticulously depicts an Irish Terrier. The rendering of the coat features a deliberately vibrant and textured bronze-work. Eschewing a smooth finish, the sculptor instead stippled and modeled the metal to capture the thick, harsh, and wiry coat characteristic of the breed, with every tool mark preserved from the original wax or clay model. It rests on a rectangular onyx marble base with beveled edges. The bronze base is inscribed with the artist’s signature, C. Charles. France circa 1920.
