Four-strand malachite necklace with Venetian millefiori cylindrical beads. The necklace is made of malachite beads set in four strands of progressive length, enriched with a sequence of Venetian glass cylindrical beads. The white metal clasp is embellished with a Venetian bead, glass beads, and onyx beads. The cylindrical beads or millefiori beads are made of Murano glass (Venice), using the technique of colored glass rods (murrine) with floral motifs, hence the term Millefiori (also known as Trade Beads). The clasp is made of black onyx beads, Mediterranean red coral (Corallium Rubrum), and a central Venetian glass bead. Italy, circa 1960.
