A pair of horse heads. Plaster casts of the horse heads, likely treated with copper crystals to closely match the excavation patina, rest on ebonized wooden parallelepiped bases with rectangular bases of green Policevera marble (from a Genoese quarry) on the four sides, enclosed in gilded frames. These casts were used for drawing lessons at the Academy. Italy, circa 1870.
