An artistic Italian coat rack from the 1950s, U. C. Ancora, Venice, Italy, 1950s.

Venice, Italy 1950s.

1600 EURO

Not simply a functional coat hanger, but one that fits between furniture and decorative art. The rectangular structure, typical of the 1950s and tapering towards the center, is made of beech wood. The composition is symmetrical yet plays on rhythm. The front is covered in plastic laminate (Formica) to which a series of hand-painted artistic ceramics are applied, three circular and two rhomboidal. Inside the circular elements are painted three different faces of young women in contrasting brushstrokes, each individually hand-painted. The two rhomboidal hooks, also in ceramic, are decorated with black and white geometric motifs. All the elements are attached to the base structure by brass studs. The back reads ‘U. C. Ancora Venezia Italy’, a brand of Venetian artistic ceramics, harking back to a Venetian production from the 1950s that was also intended for the market outside Italy. The style reflects high-quality, polychrome production with a distinctive artistic design.
