Ancient “Perückenkopf” (literally wig head), served as a head-shaped block or form used by wigmakers (perruquiers) to make, style and store wigs. These wooden heads helped maintain the wig’s shape, especially for the elaborate, powdered wigs popular in the 17th and 18th centuries. They were essential tools for crafting, curling, drying and displaying wigs before they were worn. Made of carved white poplar wood (Populus alba L.1753), Amazing patina with the traces of the hard work along the decades, including hundreds of broken pins pinned into the wood.
