18-karat gold and tortoiseshell snuffbox with miniature. Round in shape and with a flat top, this snuffbox features a concave profile and a gold hinge on the back. The interior is entirely in smooth gold, both at the base and on the lid. The top is adorned with a polished and finely chased gold border. At the center is a square gold frame with a smooth edge, richly decorated in bas-relief with leaf and rocaille motifs. Inside the frame is an extraordinary grisaille-painted miniature depicting the profile of a woman, created by the renowned French painter Pierre Victor Olagnon (1786–1870).
