18K gold and tortoiseshell snuffbox with an oval miniature on ivory. Round in shape with a flat surface, this snuffbox features a concave profile and a gold hinge recess on the back. The interior is entirely in smooth gold, both at the base and the lid. The top is adorned with a polished and finely chased gold border. At the center is a square gold frame with a plain edge, richly decorated in bas-relief with leaf and rocaille motifs. Inside the frame is an extraordinary miniature on ivory painted in grisaille, depicting the profile of a woman, executed by the renowned French painter Pierre Victor Olagnon (1786–1870).
