A monumental exhibition apothecary jar (Schaugefäß) in finely turned and polished cherrywood, featuring elegant contrasting ebonized moldings and accents. Attributable to Austro-Hungarian craftsmanship (Vienna) dating to the mid-19th century (circa 1850), executed in quintessential Biedermeier / Neoclassical style.The piece stands out for the purity of its architectural lines: a slender ovoid body enriched with ebonized molded ring bands along its circumference, topped by a domed cover surmounted by a refined, concentric-ringed ebonized finial. It rests on a turned stem over a double-tiered square plinth, likewise characterized by a dual light-wood and ebonized finish. Originally created as a decorative showpiece for prestigious period pharmacies of the Habsburg Empire, it is preserved in outstanding condition, complete in all its original parts and displaying a splendid antique patina.
