A Victorian pair of shell and coral floral arrangements on carved and gilded wooden base. Each of the two compositions features a base in sculpted and carved fruit wood, gilded which enhances the vase shape with a complex profile.
Round plinth, it rises with a wavy profile underlined by raised ribs. Above the foot of the flat base, which narrows as it goes up, completed by a thick hem. Then the lower cup which opens with a pod pattern. The body is decorated with acanthus leaves and then the final neck is smooth. The triumph of flowers, leaves and butterflies is extraordinary. Each of the flowers consists of shells, sometimes touched with colors in a wide variety of shapes and shades, and Mediterranean corals (Coralium Rubrum). The leaves are made of fabric and wire. England, circa 1880.
