A rare cast iron apothecary cap holder, traditionally used to reduce the size of caps for medicine bottles. Decorated with floral motifs and a serpent, the emblem of Asclepius, the god who presides over the knowledge of apothecaries. The back bears the embossed inscriptions “Harvant sculpteur” and “Cavillon a Paris.” Paris, France, mid-19th century.
