Walking stick: jeweled cane, L-shaped knob with gold filigree and precious stones: pearls, opals, rubies, tourmalines. Ebony wood Diospyros Ebenum (J. Koenig 1781) shaft. Metal ferrule. Signed Sophie Sander-Noske (1884-1958), Austrian goldsmith and designer, worked in Paris and Amsterdam, specializing in gold and silver filigree work. Paris, France 1900-1910.
Sophie Noske-Sander ( Vienna 1884 – 1958), a painter and goldsmith, studied at the School of applied Arts from 1902-194 and at the School for Women and Girls. She married the painter, enamellist and printmaker Hugo Noske. She lived in Paris,Haarlem and Oslo. From 1909 took part at several exhibitions and for long time she was teacher in Italy, Holland, Vienna, where during 1923/1925 was part of the Wiener Werkstätte. From 1927 she dedicated her work to painting. Her goldsmith was focused on filigree, stones and enamel.
