A jeweled walking stick with a milord-shaped pommel in celadon-dyed deer antler and silver. Two shell cameos depicting landscapes are set on the sides of the pommel, while a large shell cameo depicting a landscape is set at the top. The cane is made of malacca wood, with a bovine horn ferrule. The band is silver gilt. Signed Carlo Agostino Balbino (1777-1867). One of the most brilliant Italian silversmiths of the first half of the 19th century, he founded the largest silver factory in Turin. He participated in the Turin National Exhibition of 1898. He was one of the favorite silversmiths of the House of Savoy. Balbino silver is also found in the Quirinale Palace in Rome. Turin, Italy, circa 1860.
