8000 EURO

Art Nouveau walking stick: T-shaped handle, designed and executed by Otto Prutscher, in silver with malachite cabochons. A beautifully executed handle that integrates the graceful lines of Viennese Jugendstil, highlighted largely in rose gold, with the more geometric lines of the emerging Art Deco, as seen in the ribbed silver base. The oval malachite top is surrounded by four teardrop-shaped malachite stones, and each end features an oval malachite cabochon, all set in gilded silver. Ebony wood shaft with metal ferrule. Signed Otto Prutscher, Vienna, Austria, circa 1920.
Otto Prutscher (1880–1949) was a prominent jeweler of the Vienna Secession and an early member of the Wiener Werkstätte, having studied with its founder Josef Hoffmann at the Kunstgevereschule (School of Applied Arts). Prutscher initially worked as an architect and interior designer, later developing an interest in textiles, glass, furniture, leather goods, and metalwork. His works are exhibited in major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
