Portrait Box / Snuff Box / Trinket Box (Boîte à portrait), 19th century, France. Signed by the miniaturist along the right rim. The lid is set with a fine round gouache-on-ivory (Loxodonta African, Blumenbach, 1797) miniature depicting an elegant aristocratic lady. She wears a lush wreath of pink roses in her dark curled hair, pearl drop earrings, and a single-strand pearl necklace, with a crimson red shawl draped over her shoulder. The portrait is secured within a thick gilt-silver bezel boldly chased with acanthus leaves, floral scrolls, and ribbon motifs. The outer rim of the box features a stippled (granité) background decorated with an encircling band of chased floral garlands and leaves. Excellent condition. The watercolor on ivory (Loxodonta Africana, Blumenbach, 1797) miniature exhibits vibrant pigments and sharp detail with no visible cracking or restoration. The gilt-silver casing displays a fine, undisturbed age patina and crisp hand-chased details. Signed by the miniaturist A. Baron, silversmith Désiré Jouannet, Paris. (SHIP TO EU ONLY)
