The meticulous details of the feathers, the vibrant red-painted crests, and the varied poses of the chicks bear witness to the exceptional mastery of late 19th-century Viennese artisans.Cold-Painting: the original polychromy displays a splendid, age-acquired patina. Impressed on the underside is the mark “GESCHÜTZT” (equivalent to the French “Déposé”), which was stamped onto bronzes to certify that the design was registered and protected under the copyright laws of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The number 1829 is the official model number (Modellnummer) in the foundry’s catalog. This level of precise marking was highly characteristic of the finest Viennese workshops of the era.
