Italy late 18th century.
3000 EURO
A genre painting, oil on Paesina stone. The frame, made of wax-finished ebonized walnut, is rectangular with a carved decoration with symmetrical motives that flares inward to accommodate the painting. Inside, on a carefully selected Paesina stone panel (a mix of compact limestone and clay), is a genre scene that, taking advantage of the stone’s evocative grain, depicts a seascape in the background. A sailing ship sailing away with its sails hoisted and figures on land among architectural ruins. On the left, an arch resting on a column; in the center, the ruins of a temple with two columns; and on the right, two figures conversing on a small bridge. Oil on stone. Italy, late 18th century.
